The Baltic Sea Seminar 2025

The seminar "Life beyond the sea surface" was open to all the participants of the Rowing for herring event and was held after lunch. Participants heared the latest news about the Baltic sea and its inhabitants from the leading experts.

Also the results of the Secchi disc measurements done during the rowing were published and the best measurments will be awarded.

The seminar will be held at Viking Gabriella.

WWF Volunteers in Environmental Damage Prevention; Elina Erkkilä, WWF

Elina Erkkilä is the Conservation Director at WWF Finland. Her educational background is in biology and environmental planning. She has worked extensively on environmental and nature conservation issues across government, NGOs, and the corporate sector. Elina previously served as WWF Finland’s leading freshwater specialist. Today, she leads WWF’s conservation work, focusing on key environmental and nature conservation issues in Finland and worldwide – from grassroots initiatives to international policy.

Official Oil Spill Response; Mika Uitti, Finnish Border Guard

Commander Mika Uitti is an officer of the Finnish Border Guard and serves as First Officer aboard the patrol vessel Turva. He holds a master’s degree in military sciences and has served in the Border Guard’s maritime operations since 2009. Uitti was partly responsible for deploying the patrol vessel Merikarhu to the Frontex border security operation in Greece in 2016, and later served himself as the ship’s First Officer during the operation in 2017–2018.
